BellSouth announces changes in legal department

July 12, 2004

Atlanta -- BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) announced today that Charles R.
Morgan, general counsel, has left the company for personal reasons. Effective
immediately, Mr. Morgan's responsibilities have been assigned to Marc Gary, vice
president and associate general counsel, and Al Gonzalez-Pita, vice
president-international legal, regulatory and external affairs. Mr. Gary will
handle domestic and corporate legal issues and Mr. Gonzalez-Pita will be
responsible for international legal activities until a replacement is named.
