         BellSouth Board of Directors Declares 76th quarterly dividend


BellSouth declared a regular quarterly dividend of 20 cents per common share.
The fourth-quarter dividend is payable Feb. 3, 2003 to shareholders of record as
of the close of business on January 9, 2003.

BellSouth has nearly 1.9 billion shares outstanding in approximately one million
registered shareholder accounts. This is the 76th consecutive quarterly dividend
declared by BellSouth.
