         BellSouth Board of Directors Declares 90th Quarterly Dividend

ATLANTA -- The board of directors of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) today
declared a regular quarterly dividend of 29 cents per common share. The
second-quarter dividend is payable August 1, 2006 to shareholders of record as
of the close of business on July 13, 2006.

BellSouth has approximately 1.8 billion shares outstanding in about 700,000
registered shareholder accounts. This is the 90th consecutive quarterly dividend
declared by BellSouth.
