BellSouth Board of Directors Declares 87th Quarterly Dividend

ATLANTA - The board of directors of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) today
declared a regular quarterly dividend of 29 cents per common share. The
third-quarter dividend is payable November 1, 2005 to shareholders of record as
of the close of business on October 13, 2005.

BellSouth has approximately 1.8 billion shares outstanding in about 700,000
registered shareholder accounts. This is the 87th consecutive quarterly dividend
declared by BellSouth.
