High speed DSL tests launched in Paris
Manchester switches on to Atlantic
Atlantic Telecom Group PLC (Atlantic), the innovative pan
European will be operated by Atlantic's subsidiary
first :telecom, which last month launched SDSL
(synchronous digital subscriber line) services in
Frankfurt. Services in Munich are scheduled to go live
later this year and other major German cities will follow
shortly thereafter.
Atlantic's Managing Director, Gordon Sleigh, said : "I am
delighted that Atlantic, one of only three operators, is now
active in the deployment of DSL services in the UK,
France and Germany."
SDSL uses existing telephone connections to homes and
businesses to provide always-on, high-bandwidth
connections (up to 2.3Mbits per second) to the Internet and other
data services.
"Through our recent acquisition of first :telecom, the
Group is building up a portfolio of technologies and
services which are ideally suited to our target market:
small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) throughout Europe,"
continued Mr Sleigh.
"Our expansion in the UK is also progressing well. I am
delighted to announce that Atlantic has launched fixed
wireless services in Manchester, the first of our target
cities outside Scotland.
"Services have been launched on schedule, with the first of
our base stations switched on today. In the coming
months, Atlantic will be offering our uniquely tailored
services to SMEs as well as to many high level residential users across
Greater Manchester."
In the UK, Atlantic is using its innovative fixed wireless
technology to provide high-speed data services with
always-on connection and speeds of up to 2.4 Mbits per second,
with costs starting at under #50 per month, which
includes all fixed-line UK-based phone calls.
"Businesses are crying out for the benefits that affordable
high-speed data can offer them - but until now, the price
of such services has been prohibitive for many smaller
businesses," said Mr Sleigh.
"The entire European marketplace is being transformed by
new generations of high speed, high quality and
accessible technologies, and Atlantic intends to remain
at the forefront of that revolution."
