PARIS--French state-owned power utility Electricité de France
(EDF.FR) on Thursday said it selected Rolls Royce Holdings PLC
(RR.LN) to supply machinery for the Hinkley Point C nuclear plant
it is considering building in Somerset in the U.K., the first
nuclear power station to be built in Britain in two decades.
EDF picked Rolls Royce to supply heat exchangers worth 25
million pounds ($38 million) and a joint venture between the same
company and Nuvia to supply and install two systems for the
treatment and waste processing of reactor coolant worth GBP75
million.
The decision to select the suppliers comes as EDF, which is
supported in the project by the China General Nuclear Corp. and
China National Nuclear Corp., said it is preparing the final
investment decision for the project.
The 3,200 megawatt plant will cost GBP24.5 billion and be built
adjacent to existing nuclear facilities at Hinkley. It will utilize
the new European pressurized reactors and will power 6 million
homes.
