AirAsia X Bhd. (5238.KU) on Monday said it signed deals with
Airbus Group N.V. (EADSY) to buy 55 of the latest-generation A330
aircraft and with Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (RR.LN) to supply
engines.
The 55 A330neo, or new engine option, jets are valued at US$15.2
billion based on list prices, AirAsia X said. Airlines typically
extract large discounts of up to 30% from manufacturers.
The long-haul associate of Malaysian discount carrier AirAsia
Bhd. (5099.KU) said the new order includes a conversion of 15 of
the current-generation A330ceo jets to the next-generation A330neo
planes. The A330neo planes promise to reduce fuel burn by up to 14%
compared with the current planes.
AirAsia X also said it signed an engine-purchase agreement with
Rolls-Royce to supply Trent 7000 engines for the A330neo jets and
Trent 700 engines for the A330ceo planes.
AirAsia X will start receiving the A330neo jets in 2018.
The company, which recently opened a new hub in Indonesia and
plans to expand to other Asian markets, said it will use the new
planes to expand its fleet and also replace existing jets.
