Keppel Corp. is building an offshore wind turbine installation
vessel valued at 600 million Singapore dollars (US$451.4 million)
for Virginia-based Dominion Energy Inc.
Singapore-based Keppel said Thursday that the 452-foot vessel,
to be built by Keppel Offshore & Marine at the company's Texas
shipyard, will be the first such vessel in the United States.
The vessel will be used to support several U.S. wind projects,
including East Coast projects exceeding 5 gigawatts of offshore
wind construction to 2027, Keppel said. Delivery is scheduled for
2023.
"This is a monumental step for the offshore wind industry in
America," said Robert M. Blue, Dominion Energy's president and
chief executive.
Keppel in October had said it secured a S$600 million contract
in the renewable energy industry in the United States.
