LONDON--Carlsberg U.K. (CARL-A.KO) said on Wednesday it plans to
transfer its remaining secondary logistics operations to DHL
(DHL-XX) Tradeteam during 2017 and 2018 so that it can focus on
core beer and brewing.
The proposal to outsource will impact jobs of the employees
directly involved with porterage and secondary logistics
activities, the brewing company said.
Carlsberg employs 1,800 people in the UK, roughly 900 of whom
work in logistics
"We recognize this is a significant change for our business and
in particular our employees," said Chief Executive Officer Julian
Momen, adding that the company will provide the necessary support
for these employees and that all existing porterage contracts will
be honored until expiry.
"In the longer-term, this transformation will build a
sustainable business focused on our core offering, which is brewing
premium-quality beers and building brands," said Mr. Momen.
The company said the decision is part of a wider business
transformation and that it has nothing to do with the U.K.'s
decision to leave the European Union. Carlsberg said the
transformation program started in November last year.
