Coors Brewing Company Sponsors Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets for
Cena en el Barrio 2004 Coors, Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets and the
Denver City Council to Deliver 1,600 Food Baskets to Denver
Families in Need This Holiday Season GOLDEN, Colo., Nov. 22
/PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, December 18, Coors Brewing Company and
Coors Distributing Company will team up with the local charity, Sam
Sandos Christmas Baskets, and the Denver City Council for the
seventh year in a row to deliver food to Denver families in need.
The program, Cena en el Barrio, strives to bridge Denver's economic
gap during the holiday season by providing food baskets to families
who are struggling financially. Coors will provide $20,000 to
purchase food, as well as 1,600 boxes for delivering food,
distribution trucks and delivery drivers. Coors Hispanic Employee
Network (CHEN) volunteers will be on hand to sort food. Coors
volunteers will be joined by the Sandos family, Denver City Council
members, the Denver Fire Department, and the Denver Sheriff's
Office, to build food baskets at North High School. Each food
basket will contain a variety of holiday food items for a family of
four to six people. "Giving back to communities where we do
business is something we take seriously at Coors Brewing Company.
We are proud to sponsor this program which puts a holiday meal on a
table that might have otherwise been less abundant," said Melissa
Coors, Coors Brewing Company assistant brand manager for Hispanic
marketing. "Cena en el Barrio is our way of saying happy holidays
from our extended family at Coors to Denver families in need." In
1975, former Denver City Council member Sam Sandos started the
program out of his kitchen to feed hungry constituents during the
holidays. During the first year, he fed 40 families. In 1978, Sam
Sandos and Joe Lucero joined forces with St. Vincent De Paul
Society to feed 200 families. The Sandos' sons and daughters now
carry on his commitment to the community every year through this
tradition. Corporate sponsorship and volunteers have helped the
organization increase distribution to assist more families each
year. "We'd like to extend a special thank you to Coors Brewing
Company and our government partners including Denver City
Councilwoman Rosemary Rodriguez and Denver Public Schools for their
support of this program," said Patrick Sandos, son of Sam Sandos.
"Our father would be very proud of this and all of the people who
make the holiday season brighter for families in our community."
Coors and Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets will increase the number of
food baskets to 1,600 this year from the 1,000 baskets delivered in
2003 and will ensure that 600 more families have dinner for the
holiday. In order to meet the challenge, the program has expanded
its relationship with the Denver City Council to increase
distribution from homes in District 3, to include homes in areas of
Districts 1 and 9. "Many people in West Denver have continued to
struggle this year," said Councilwoman Rosemary Rodriguez. "This
program gives them some relief as we continue to work on improving
economic opportunities in Denver." Tax-deductible donations can be
made by sending a check to Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets, P.O. Box
370945, Denver, CO 80237-0945. For more information about
volunteering, contact Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets at (720)

families for this year's distribution. Coors also sponsors Cena en
el Barrio in Los Angeles, San Diego, New York and New Jersey. In
each city, Coors collaborates with its distributors and local
charitable organizations to feed hungry families during the holiday
season. About Coors Brewing Company: Coors Brewing Company is the
