TRW Automotive president and chief executive officer, explained:
"IAA is an ideal event for us to demonstrate how we're 'putting the
thinking into safety'. We're taking a smarter approach to safety in
three ways: through our advanced, intelligent systems; by improving
the value and offering more affordable solutions; and by offering a
range of innovative fuel efficient systems to meet global efforts
to reduce the impact of harmful emissions on our environment." TRW
Automotive's stand will focus on these three key areas which
underpin Cognitive Safety: 'Advanced Thinking', 'Smart Thinking'
and 'Green Thinking'. Executive vice president of sales &
business development, Peter Lake, explained: "Advanced thinking
represents our sensor technologies, processing capabilities and
proprietary algorithms that seamlessly integrate radar, video,
steering, brakes, crash sensors and more. It symbolises how our
technology works together to sense, analyse, anticipate and act
appropriately in ever changing conditions." Lake continued: "TRW is
approaching the area of fuel efficiency by focusing on all of the
elements beyond powertrain that can deliver the biggest
cost/benefit impact. TRW's range of electrically assisted steering
and hybrid enabling braking technologies are proving their
efficiency and value across a wide range of models. These, and a
number of other systems, are key enablers of both intelligent
safety and fuel economy. "Finally, across all of our business we
are focused on value enhancement. Firstly, it sums up TRW's ethos
of safety for all - it's not just about developing advanced
technology for the luxury vehicle segment. We are innovating new
products for all areas of the market and for all markets. This can
be achieved through cost optimization, scalability, modularity or
indeed through integration. "In today's market environment we have
to find every way to support customers' efficiency, while making it
possible for a broad range of consumers to afford the very best
safety technology." Examples of scalable products include TRW's
modular family of Electronic Stability Control products that can
provide ABS, ESC, and regenerative braking functions in a common
architecture; multi-function camera-based vision systems; and
emerging market Airbag Control Units that are scalable to handle
both domestic and export requirements. Cost optimized solutions
include TRW's 24 GHz radar technology and its second generation
Active Control Retractor, a motorized, reversible seatbelt
pretensioner. Finally, integration highlights include the Company's
Integrated Electronic Park Brake and Stability Control system,
integrated Inertial Measurement Unit and Airbag Control Unit, and
integrated Tire Pressure Monitoring and Keyless Entry Radio
Frequency receiver. The Company's exhibit at the Frankfurt IAA show
in September will bring TRW's capabilities to life through high
tech presentations, demonstrations and simulations. The stand can
be found at booth F18 in Hall 8. About TRW With 2008 sales of $15.0
