--The Chief Executive of Telecom Italia, Amos Genish, will meet representatives of activist investor Elliott Management on Friday, the Financial Times reports.

--Mr. Genish, however, said a board shake-up would not be in the interests of shareholders, the FT says. Mr. Genish added that he would resist any attempt to force the business to merge its Brazilian phone network with that of Oi, which he said is a likely motivation for Elliott's move, according to the newspaper.

--Elliott has built a shareholding in Telecom Italia, and this week said that "governance, valuation, strategic direction...would be improved by replacing certain members of the board," the FT reports.
