A new video produced by Apple profiles RehabCare Group, Inc.
(NYSE: RHB) and its commitment to investing in latest generation
point-of-service technology to improve quality and efficiency,
harness costs and enhance the patient and customer experience.
RehabCare, which has utilized handheld devices in its Skilled
Nursing Rehabilitation Services (SRS) division to capture time and
treatment data for more than a decade, is deploying Apple mobile
technologies companywide with the goal of achieving
interoperability of its various post-acute care settings. The video

“As the needs of our constituents are changing, our technology
strategy is evolving in order to meet those needs,” commented John
H. Short, Ph.D., RehabCare President and Chief Executive Officer.
“We have long known the benefits of point-of-care applications to
improve productivity and compliance, but the sophistication of
mobile innovations, such as the Apple iPhone and iPad, offers us a
new level of capabilities, including real-time information sharing
with clients and referral sources, remote training and resources
for our clinicians and interactive educational tools for patients
and families – all clear differentiators.
“Furthermore, the ability to establish data sharing across our
post-acute continuum, simplified through mobile solutions, provides
the basis for more evidence-based care.”
Dr. Short said the Company already has experienced significant
reduction in admission times by streamlining a once manual patient
pre-screening process with an application built on the iPhone, and
therapists that have completed the upgrade to the iPod Touch have
shown marked improvement in the speed and efficiency of capturing
patient data. In concert with enhanced reporting and benchmarking
applications, the creation of an electronic medical record platform
and other strategies, the Company is expecting these technology
initiatives to have a profound impact on the delivery of its
services over the next several years.
“Making faster, more intelligent clinical and business decisions
through the availability of immediate information is essential in
addressing a growing patient population and the demands on 21st
century healthcare providers,” said Dr. Short. “We want to lead the
movement towards better, more coordinated, cost-efficient
post-acute care, and technology is a key driver.”
