Award-winning RFS7000-GR becomes industry's first wireless
switch/controller certified to meet both Common Criteria EAL4 and
FIPS 140-2 Level2 requirements for federal and government markets
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Enterprise
Mobility Solutions business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) announced
that its RFS7000-GR wireless switch/controller has received Common
Criteria EAL4 certification. Having undergone rigorous testing at
Aspect Labs and SERTIT, Motorola's wireless switch/controller is
the only such solution validated at both FIPS 140-2 Level2 and
Common Criteria EAL4 with the U.S. Government Wireless LAN Access
System Protection Profile for basic robustness environments. The
RFS7000-GR is part of Motorola's award-winning family of
high-performance, multi-core processor-based wireless LAN (WLAN)
switch/controllers targeted at large enterprise and government
wireless deployments. As these certifications extend to Motorola
access ports, customers can build highly secure wireless LANs that
are Common Criteria EAL4 and FIPS 140-2 compliant from the mobile
user's handset to the access port and to the RFS7000-GR
switch/controller. "Recent attempts to breach sensitive government
networks indicate the need for federal agencies and governments to
continually evaluate their wireless LAN infrastructure security,"
said Thom Rubel, practice director, IDC Government Insights.
"Particularly as government agencies grow their reliance on
mobility applications, it is important they consider wireless LAN
technologies designed to ensure business continuity and certified
to meet federal security requirements." Motorola's RFS7000-GR is
highly scaleable, supporting up to 12,000 adaptive 802.11a/b/g/n
access points (AP) and is capable of providing Wi-Fi coverage for
up to 96,000 users when operating in a cluster configuration. With
best-in-class security and unmatched reliability, it offers
significant cost savings when compared to wired Ethernet networks.
The RFS7000-GR provides customers with an extensive feature set,
intuitive configuration and management settings, and zero-port
licensing. It offers federal, state and local agencies the highest
level of network resilience with self-healing and clustering
capabilities that help ensure wireless connectivity in all corners
of the organization. By leveraging the RFS7000-GR to manage their
wireless LANs, government agencies can offer end-to-end security
and resilience at a much lower cost than wired or wireless
equivalents. They can do this while remaining confident that their
network meets the most excessive wireless security requirements as
validated by FIPS 140-2 Level2 and the latest Common Criteria EAL4
security certifications. The RFS7000-GR supports both access ports
as well as dependent and independent access points so government
agencies have the flexibility of deploying an end-to-end Common
Criteria EAL 4 and FIPS 140-2 Level2 assured solution that meets
their wireless mobility and security needs today and in the future.
By implementing an 802.11i Counter Mode with Cipher Block Chaining
Message Authentication Code Protocol (CCMP) client in users' mobile
devices, IT departments can ensure Common Criteria EAL4 and FIPS
140-2 compliance from the mobile users' handset to the access port
to the wireless switch/controller. By providing flexible licensing,
the RFS7000-GR allows pervasive deployments from small and medium
to very large government organizations. When it comes to wireless
network security, Motorola's RFS7000-GR exceeds current government
requirements by including a comprehensive suite of security
features, including integrated MAC-based authentication, wireless
intrusion detection, AAA/Radius server (WPA2-CCMP termination on
the box), wireless Layer 2-7 stateful firewall, secure guest access
and integration with Motorola AirDefense Wireless Intrusion
Prevention System. By combining these robust security features with
FIPS 140-2 Level2 and Common Criteria EAL4 certificates, Motorola's
RFS7000-GR offers government agencies across the world the
opportunity to leverage the latest in wireless networking
technologies while remaining confident that the voice, video and
data applications running on their wireless LANs are protected from
outside threats. "Governments worldwide have to be confident that
the wireless networks they trust can survive the most extreme
security threats," said Jim Mears, vice president and general
manager, U.S. Federal Government Markets, Motorola Enterprise
Mobility Solutions. "Motorola has purpose built its products to
allow any organization, whether government or private enterprise,
to carry-out their mission with the most secure WLAN infrastructure
available in the industry." Motorola offers a comprehensive
portfolio of wireless solutions designed to enable the truly
wireless enterprise -- from large enterprises with locations all
over the world to branch offices and small businesses. Delivering
wireless coverage both indoor and outdoor -- Motorola's innovative
wireless enterprise portfolio includes fixed broadband, mesh,
enterprise wireless LAN and Motorola AirDefense wireless security
solutions. With time-proven resiliency, security and performance
equal to or greater than that of a wired network, Motorola's
solutions substantially reduce network deployment and maintenance
costs, and ensure the availability of cost-effective wireless
connectivity in every corner of the enterprise. The result is the
