Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM), the world's largest technology
distributor and supply-chain services provider, today announced
another advancement in its social responsibility effort through an
expanded relationship with EPEAT®, the definitive global registry
for greener electronics.
Through an exclusive agreement effective in the fourth quarter
of this year, Ingram Micro's resellers in the U.S. will be able to
purchase an annual EPEAT Channel Partner Membership that provides
access to a robust set of green IT resources. The membership
includes public relations, sales and marketing, and training tools,
as well as ratings information on thousands of environmentally
friendly products.
"Ingram Micro is strategically positioned to help customers
build their green IT expertise and choose products and solutions
that carry a reduced impact to the environment," said Paul Bay,
executive vice president, Ingram Micro North America. "Through this
partnership with EPEAT, Ingram Micro resellers gain an advantage in
addressing the growing segment of end-users looking for more
environmentally friendly solutions."
EPEAT is the definitive environmental rating system for
electronics, with more than 3,200 products currently registered by
48 participating manufacturers, from global giants to small
integrators, representing 41 countries. Products are rated Bronze,
Silver or Gold based on the IEEE 1680 family of public standards
that assesses 51 environmental criteria, including the elimination
of toxic materials, design for recycling, extended product
longevity, increased energy efficiency, and availability of
take-back and recycling services. EPEAT was developed through a
stakeholder consensus process and is managed by the Green
Electronics Council, a non-profit organization based in Portland,
Oregon.
Ingram Micro advanced its participation in green IT solutions
with the launch of its Smart Citizen global corporate social
responsibility program in April 2010. The company monitors and
tracks its impact on the environment in a variety of areas
throughout the world, disclosing the results in a corporate social
responsibility report available to the public. Early this year, the
North American region launched its Smart Steward recycling program
for the safe return of toner and ink jet cartridges and cell
phones. With the launch of this new channel program, U.S. resellers
also gain access to Ingram Micro's updated Green Scene web portal,
an online resource that provides green IT resources and
manufacturer information. The company works closely with its
business partners to contribute to a socially responsible supply
chain throughout the world.

About EPEAT EPEAT® is the definitive
global registry for greener electronics, covering the most products
from the broadest range of manufacturers across the widest array of
countries. EPEAT combines comprehensive criteria for design,
production, energy use and recycling with ongoing independent
verification of manufacturer claims. The sale of 80 million EPEAT
registered products in 2009 resulted in greenhouse gas reductions
equal to removing 1.37 million US cars from the road for a year,
solid waste reductions equivalent to 15,000 US households' annual
waste, and elimination of enough mercury to fill 372,000 fever
thermometers. More than 93 million EPEAT registered products were
sold in covered countries in 2010. More information at:
