The fire at Exxon Mobil Corp.'s (XOM) Baton Rouge, La., refinery
Wednesday morning was brief and located at a gas compressor, a
company spokesman said Thursday. Of the three injured workers, two
contractors were released while an employee continued to be treated
at a local hospital. Exxon reaffirmed that general operations were
not affected.
Exxon's refinery in Torrance, Calif., reported Wednesday that
planned flaring activity that would take place April 18-30, but did
not disclose details. Refineries typically submit such notices to
regulators when maintenance is being conducted at units.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Thursday that the fluid catalytic
cracking unit at its Quebec City refinery has returned to planned
rates after repairs were completed on damage caused by an early
February fire. The company's Corpus Christi refinery reported the
startup of equipment following maintenance in Complex 1 and 3 at
the West Plant Thursday.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) said a sixth worker died Tuesday morning
after suffering critical injuries from the Anacortes, Wash.,
refinery fire on April 2. A seventh worker remains in serious
condition at a Seattle hospital.
BP PLC (BP) expected to begin maintenance at Pipestill 3A's
Merox unit at its Texas City, Texas, refinery Wednesday evening,
according to state environmental regulatory filing Tuesday.
Pipestill is another name for the crude distillation unit.
