Gateway Notebook PCs to Appear in All Best Buy Stores Later This
Month Key Step in Company's Strategy to Expand PC Distribution
Beyond its Popular Direct Channels POWAY and IRVINE, Calif., July
22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway, Inc. today announced that
Best Buy, the nation's leading retailer of PCs and consumer
electronics, will begin selling new Gateway-branded notebooks this
month, with desktops to follow. (Logo:

systems will be sold across Best Buy's retail network of 622 stores
nationwide. Two notebooks will appear on its shelves this month,
while desktop models will be rolled out beginning in August. Their
availability at Best Buy represents an important step in expanding
the distribution of Gateway PCs beyond the company's traditional
direct channels, following the closure of its 188 retail stores in
April. Gateway adopted this strategy after its merger in March with
eMachines, Inc., whose eMachines-branded products are sold through
major retailers in the U.S., Japan and the UK. The Gateway
notebooks will offer leading-edge technology in thin and light
designs to complement the mainstream, high-performance
configurations sold under the eMachines brand, offering customers a
broad range of systems to choose among. "Gateway is one of the most
well-known and trusted brands in America," said Wayne Inouye,
Gateway's president and chief executive officer. "We're pleased
that Best Buy has recognized the value of our brand and the appeal
it will have to their customers. Gateway's products will be
included in Best Buy's advertising inserts which reach over 50
million households a week, and we look forward to working with them
to expand the distribution of our products, making them more widely
available to millions of consumers." "Best Buy is excited to add
Gateway to our wide assortment of computers. This strengthens our
product offering while providing even more choices to consumers,"
said Wendy Fritz, vice president of computing at Best Buy. Details
about the new Gateway notebooks will be available when products are
ready for sale. About Gateway Since its founding in 1985, Gateway
