Olympic sponsor since 2000, Gateway will provide complete hardware
systems for the U.S. team and its athletes, as well as at key
venues, including the U.S. Embassy's security command center, the
U.S. Olympic Committee's USA House Business and Hospitality Center
and Bank of America's Hometown Hopefuls Family Center. Gateway's
support of the USOC doesn't begin and end with its involvement with
the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team in Athens. The company's award-winning
systems have been the backbone of the U.S. Olympic Complex in
Colorado Springs, Colo., Chula Vista, Calif. and Lake Placid, NY
since 2000 -- keeping more than 25,000 athletes, coaches,
administrators and families connected while at the same time
ensuring that vital applications and data remain accessible and
secure. "Since first partnering with us at the Olympic Winter Games
in Salt Lake City, Gateway has worked closely with the USOC for all
our computer needs," said Jim Scherr, U.S. Olympic Committee Chief
Executive. "We couldn't be more pleased to have Gateway as the
Official Computer Hardware Sponsor for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team."
Gateway is also proud to be sponsoring five 2004 U.S. Olympic and
Paralympic Team athletes and hopefuls. They include: * Amanda
Beard, swimming -- four-time Olympic medalist, competing in the
100m, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley. * Shane Hamman,
weightlifting -- named to the U.S. Olympic Team in May, he is
considered the strongest man in America, competing in the 105+kg
weight class. * Ed Moses, swimming -- won gold and silver in the
2000 Olympic Games, world record holder in the 100m and 200m
breaststroke, competing in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. * Mark
Ruiz, diving -- named to the U.S. Olympic Team in June, he is the
most decorated athlete at any U.S. Diving Nationals in history,
competing in the 3m platform. * Marlon Shirley, track and field --
already qualified for the U.S. Paralympic Team, he is a gold
medalist (100m dash) from the 2000 Paralympic Games, competing in
the long jump, 100m, 200m, 4 x 100m, 4 x 400m. "We're proud of the
role we play in helping empower U.S. athletes to be successful at a
world-class level," said Greg Seremetis, director of partner
marketing for Gateway. "In Athens, we hope to achieve the same
level of success with our U.S. athletes as we did at the 2002
Olympic Winter Games, where we provided more than 5,400 servers and
PCs to more the more than 28,000 employees and volunteers in Salt
Lake City." Housing an array of Gateway PCs in a comfortable,
hands-on environment, two large hospitality areas, called "Gateway
Green Rooms" will provide the U.S. Olympic Team, athletes and fans
with a way to connect with family and friends back home via
wireless access points, or hot spots. The two Gateway Green Rooms
are located within two other major USOC hospitality venues in
Athens. These include: * Bank of America's Hometown Hopefuls -- In
the heart of the historical center of Athens, this hospitality
venue will be open to all U.S. Olympic Team athletes and up to four
family members or friends. Approximately 15,000 guests are expected
throughout the Games. Serving as a wireless Internet cafe and
coffee house, it will have online access via Gateway PCs, as well
as complimentary coffee, refreshments, a calling center, live
broadcast feed, gifts and access to event tickets. * U.S. Olympic
Committee's USA House Business and Hospitality Center -- Located
within the Plaka, Athens' renowned pedestrian shopping area, this
multi-story hospitality venue will be available for the U.S.
Olympic Committee, U.S. Olympic Team athletes, sponsors, suppliers,
and VIP guests. Attendance is expected to reach 10,000 during the
games. It encompasses private dining areas, meeting rooms, a full
buffet and bar, entertainment, media interview area, merchandise
and a Gateway Green Room wireless Internet cafe. In addition to
sponsoring the U.S. Olympic Team during the 2004 Olympic Games,
Gateway has partnered with the U.S. Embassy in Athens to provide a
variety of products in support of the embassy's operations. Embassy
staff will rely on Gateway portables, desktops, servers, and other
Gateway products to provide the technology backbone for its ongoing
efforts during the Athens Olympic Games. About Gateway Since its
