Through a collaboration with Dyomics GmbH, an innovative developer
and manufacturer of fluorescent dyes and other markers for
biomolecular research, Fisher Biosciences is now able to develop
and manufacture an expanded range of products for protein and
nucleic-acid detection under the Pierce brand. Based in Jena,
Germany, Dyomics is a leader in fluorescent-dye chemistry. Its
products are used in a number of scientific-research,
drug-discovery and diagnostic applications -- including Western
blotting, multiplex detection of proteins and nucleic acids,
protein interaction and antibody arrays, quantitative PCR
(polymerase chain reaction), and cellular imaging. When used as
markers for proteins and other biomolecules such as DNA and RNA,
fluorescent dyes help scientists map protein pathways to better
understand the underlying mechanisms of disease. "This technology
is extremely important to scientific research and drug discovery,"
said Leland Foster, Chief Executive Officer of Fisher Biosciences.
"The collaboration with Dyomics will enable us to offer customers
improved detection performance and development of products for new
applications, allowing us to offer fluorescent as well as
chemiluminescent-detection methodologies." Under the Pierce brand,
Fisher Biosciences currently offers protein-research products based
primarily on chemiluminescent and colorimetric detection. The
collaboration with Dyomics will expand Fisher Biosciences'
capabilities to offer state-of-the-art fluorescently labeled
reagents. Fisher Biosciences is a unit of Fisher Scientific
International Inc., which recently acquired an equity interest in
Dyomics. This transaction strengthens the existing relationship
between the two companies, which had previously partnered in the
development of Fisher Biosciences' protein-research products sold
under the DyLight(TM) brand. "We are excited about this
collaboration with Dyomics and the opportunities it brings to
better serve our customers," said Foster. About Pierce Pierce is a
business unit of the Fisher Biosciences group, offering leading
research products for use in protein chemistry, sample handling,
immunology and chromatography. Pierce is especially strong in the
protein chemistry-related field where it enjoys international
recognition for its technologies, products and kits used for
protein detection and quantitation. For more information about
Pierce-brand products visit www.piercenet.com or call 815-968-0747.
