BALTIMORE, March 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today announced that its subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy, has donated nearly 34,000 energy efficient light bulbs to housing authority customers throughout New England. As part of an energy efficiency and environmental program, Constellation NewEnergy secured these compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) at a competitive rate and distributed them to 34 housing authorities and other customers in Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut. "The generous donation of these energy efficient light bulbs underscores Constellation NewEnergy's commitment as both our long-standing energy provider and a valued partner," said Greg Russ, director of the Cambridge Housing Authority, which was one of the 34 housing authorities included in the program. "We are making the installation of these light bulbs a top priority, so that we can see an immediate and positive impact on our energy costs and carbon footprint." Constellation NewEnergy has made this donation to help its housing authority clients throughout New England realize twofold benefits: * Increased Energy Efficiency - Replacing just one 60 watt incandescent light bulb with a 14 watt CFL (that burns for 10,000 hours and lasts approximately five years) will reduce electricity costs by about $60 over the life of the bulb, which will result in significant cost savings for each housing authority. * Environmental Benefits - Each CFL saves approximately 330 kilowatt hours over its life, translating to the reduction of about 400 pounds of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Carbon dioxide is linked to global warming. "We are pleased to make this contribution to the housing authorities that we work with throughout New England," said Bruce Sher, vice president for Constellation NewEnergy's New England region. "In addition to giving back to the communities that we serve, we see this as a unique opportunity to build awareness around steps that individuals and businesses can take to improve energy efficiency and significantly impact energy spending and the environment."
