Peru's October Copper, Gold, Silver, Zinc Output Declines
November 28 2010 - 10:02AM
Dow Jones News
Production of copper, silver, gold and zinc decreased in Peru in
October, the government said late Saturday.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy said output of gold totaled
13,050 kilograms, down 13.48% compared to the same month a year
earlier.
Output of gold fell at Barrick Gold Corp.'s (ABX) Barrick
Misquichilca mine; at Minera Yanacocha, and at other mines, it
said.
Silver production in Peru, the world's largest producer of that
precious metal, fell 10.17% to 299,105 kilograms in October from
the year before period.
That was due to lower output at various mines.
Copper production decreased 1.01% to 111,485 metric tons in
October due in part, the government said, to weaker output at
Xstrata's (XTA.LN) Tintaya operation; at Southern Copper Corp.
(SCCO) and at other mines.
Zinc production was 123,869 tons in October, down 9.57% from the
year earlier period.
Among some of the other minerals, the government said molybdenum
output rose 27.61% in October to 1,528 tons.
Lead output declined 19.60% to 19,904 tons in October.
Iron output rose 82.65% in October to 475,896 tons.
Tin output fell 25.22% in October to 2,417 tons.
