Release 1.0, a property of CNET Networks (NASDAQ:CNET) that
produces events for influencers in emerging markets, today
announced open registration for its next conference, Flight School:
Air, to be held June 15 to 16 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Flight
School: Air will bring together the growing community of
stakeholders -- air-taxi entrepreneurs, established charter
carriers, aircraft makers, local leaders, federal regulators and
investors -- to explore the exciting new business opportunities in
this market. Esther Dyson, leader of PC Forum and a respected
visionary on innovation in business, has identified on-demand
aviation as a dynamic and potentially lucrative industry that will
change the structure of air travel. At Flight School: Air, Dyson
will provoke the same kind of insight and energy that PC Forum, her
annual executive conference, offers the IT industry. Participants
will be led through a comprehensive first look at the technology
(including dynamic pricing and real-time schedule optimization),
business models and start-up companies driving the on-demand
aviation market as well as disruptions in both business and
regulatory models. "Air travel changed when companies such as
Travelocity, Orbitz and Expedia made the supply of airplane seats
visible to consumers. Now the early movers in on-demand air are
creating new market dynamics based on their ability to see and
respond to consumer demand in near-real time. We believe these are
going to have a huge impact on short-haul travel -- driving people
out of cars -- and also on local development patterns," said Esther
Dyson, host of Flight School: Air. "More interesting, this new
market will play an important role in defining how the US air
system is funded and regulated. Not only will air-taxi services be
challenged by the current regulatory structure; they will challenge
it -- much as the Internet and mobile phone companies ultimately
changed the competitive and regulatory environment of
telecommunications. Local, decentralized mechanisms are likely to
play a much bigger role." In a workshop-style format, with lively,
candid, open-mic discussions, participants will consider the
business opportunities as well as the major challenges this nascent
industry faces. The event kicks off on the evening of June 15th.
Throughout the following day, participants will hear from a who's
who of influential voices in air travel: Rick Adam, Founder &
CEO of Adam Aircraft; Steve Fisher, CEO of Slipstream; Vern Raburn,
President & CEO of Eclipse Aviation; Ed Iacobucci, President
& CEO of DayJet; Bruce Holmes, Director, Strategic
Partnerships, in the Planning and Management Office at NASA Langley
Research Center; and Andy Steinberg, Chief Counsel of the FAA. For
