-- Trend Micro, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMIC)(TSE:4704), a leader in network
antivirus and content security software and services, today
announced that it will offer the cleaning option in HouseCall(TM)
-- its free online consumer malware scanning service -- in return
for voluntary donations that will be given to two public service
organizations in the United States and Europe. Trend Micro(TM)
HouseCall was first launched in May 1997, providing users with an
easy Web-based method for scanning and cleaning computers of
viruses, worms, and other malicious code. Originally developed as
an antivirus scanning tool, the service can now detect and remove
spyware and adware as well. One of the most comprehensive free
security tools available today, HouseCall cleaning is now being
offered in the U.S. and EMEA in return for a charitable donation.
After utilizing the service, users can contribute a voluntary
donation through a simple process set up via links on Trend Micro's
Web site. Proceeds (minus any transaction fee) will be donated to
Close the Gap, a European non-profit organization based in
Brussels, Belgium, and Schools Online, based in the United States.
Headquartered at the University of Brussels, Close the Gap focuses
on closing the digital divide between the northern and southern
regions of EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). The organization
provides considerable support to African countries. Further

Online is a public benefit organization that represents the
educational arm of Relief International. It helps students gain
access to the Internet and utilize online communication and
information resources for learning and cross-cultural dialogue. The
organization provides technology and Internet access, establishes
Internet learning centers, fosters professional development for
teachers, supports online cross-cultural projects, and shares
knowledge and experience. For further information, visit

has a social responsibility to help people benefit from

proceeds to these two organizations, our users and our company can
jointly affect the prospects of others who do not have the same
opportunities." Trend Micro has extended HouseCall's browser
support beyond Microsoft Internet Explorer to include other
browsers like Mozilla (Firefox), and NetScape. In addition to
