David Weil, Chief Legal Officer for Starz, announced several executive Legal department promotions in the Business & Legal Affairs and Business & Creative Affairs groups in the Beverly Hills and Denver offices.

“I am pleased to announce the well-deserved promotions of Carrie Dolce, Todd Hoy, Gavin Wise, Deanne Bloch, John Martin and Janine Scalise Boyd who have made major contributions to Starz over the last several years through their dedication, vision and teamwork,” Weil said. “Their critical roles have been instrumental in continuing Starz’s momentum in the production and development of new original programming and growing the larger Starz businesses.”

Carrie Dolce was recently promoted from Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs, to Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs. Based in the Beverly Hills office, Dolce is responsible for business affairs matters from development through post-production, including negotiating above-the-line talent deals, strategizing and implementing parameters in connection with such negotiations and advising senior executives regarding contractual and policy issues. Prior to joining Starz in 2008, Dolce was a member of the ABC Family business affairs team and prior to that, handled day-to-day legal matters from development through post-production at Warner Bros Theatrical. Dolce earned her Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA with a major in literature and minors in history and languages.

Based in the Denver office, Todd Hoy was promoted to Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs for Starz. In this expanded position, Hoy is responsible for providing business and legal affairs support for content acquisition, programming and distribution across the family of STARZ offerings, including all traditional and non-traditional forms of subscription linear, on-demand and online services. He most recently served as Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs. Prior to joining Starz in 2011, Hoy served as corporate counsel for DISH Network, providing business and legal affairs support for programming acquisition and distribution across the DISH service, including linear, pay-per-view, video-on-demand, online authentication, interactive television and advertising sales.

Gavin Wise was recently promoted to Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs. Based in the Beverly Hills office, Wise advises senior executives and their teams across the company’s Original Programming, Production, Finance, Marketing and Publicity groups, as well as production personnel worldwide, on a broad range of business, legal, policy and strategic matters relating to Starz’s slate of original programming. Wise is responsible for negotiating complex talent and rights deals and works closely with Starz’s licensors and production partners regarding Starz’s business and legal parameters. Wise oversees a team of attorneys and outside counsel in the US and abroad in connection with these endeavors. Prior to joining Starz, Wise held the position of Senior Counsel and Vice President, West Coast Programming at HBO where he was responsible for legal matters pertaining to HBO series, mini-series and specials and headed the legal team for its comedy festival business and many of its digital programming initiatives. Prior to joining HBO, Wise was an entertainment attorney in private practice at Loeb & Loeb in Los Angeles and Blake, Cassels & Graydon in Toronto. He began his career as a development, production and finance executive at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto. Wise holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Queen’s University, Faculty of Law at Kingston, Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Trinity College, University of Toronto.

Based in the Beverly Hills office, Deanne Bloch was promoted to Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs with a focus on clearance work for the network. In her expanded role, Bloch is responsible for clearances of all STARZ original programming and promos, and is also responsible for Business and Legal Affairs for all marketing shoots, including shoots in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, New Zealand, South Africa, Scotland, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Ireland. Bloch created the clearance and credit procedures for the network and has worked on clearances for Starz Original series including “Head Case,” “Party Down,” “Magic City,” “Black Sails,” “Power,” “Survivor’s Remorse,” “Flesh and Bone” and “Ash vs Evil Dead.” Bloch previously held positions in Business and Legal Affairs at Warner Bros Television, G4, MGM, Fox and ABC and has worked on more than 300 television series, movies, documentaries, animated and reality series. Bloch received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, at Santa Barbara.

John Martin, promoted to Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs – Production Labor Relations, manages Starz’s relationships with the DGA, IATSE, SAG-AFTRA, WGA and Teamsters (or Guild and Union) personnel, while ensuring compliance with various Collective Bargaining Agreements. He has represented Starz at negotiations for the Pay Television Agreement between Starz, HBO and Showtime with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). Martin works in the Beverly Hills office with internal teams, including Original Programming, Production, Business & Legal Affairs, Marketing and Publicity on production plans and budgets for STARZ Original series including “Outlander,” “Survivor’s Remorse,” “American Gods,” “Blunt Talk,” “Ash vs Evil Dead,” “The Girlfriend Experience,” “Black Sails” and “The White Queen.” He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern University’s Creative Writing Program.

Janine Scalise Boyd was promoted to Vice President, Business & Creative Affairs. Based in the company’s Beverly Hills office, Boyd serves as lead music executive for STARZ original programming, including STARZ Original series “Ash vs Evil Dead,” “Black Sails” and “Power,” as well as limited series “Flesh and Bone.” Boyd is directly responsible for overseeing the hiring of music supervisors and composers, as well as determining the licensing budgets and supervising clearances. Boyd also oversees music supervision services for Original Programming throughout each project’s production process from pre-production through final delivery, as well as the network’s Image Campaigns and trailers for all series. Boyd also serves as Music Supervisor on select STARZ Original series, including “Ash vs Evil Dead.” Additionally, Boyd guided Starz into music publishing for all of its wholly-owned STARZ Original series for the last eight years.
