Segue Announces SilkCentral(TM) -- an Innovative Platform that Optimizes Software Quality SilkCentral Integrates Existing and New Silk Products Into a Cohesive Quality Assurance Platform LEXINGTON, Mass., April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Segue Software, Inc. , the leaders in software quality optimization, today advanced and extended its Silk product line into a new quality optimization platform. SilkCentral(TM) is designed to centralize control and management of software quality throughout the entire software application lifecycle. SilkCentral serves as the foundation for Segue's technology direction and incorporates all of the existing Silk family of products, as well as those from other companies, into one cohesive platform. The underlying foundation of SilkCentral is the Silk Common Architecture(TM) (SCA), providing a set of common services and interfaces that enable the various SilkCentral modules to integrate with other Silk products and/or third party tools. SilkCentral consists of three product modules which span the application lifecycle: SilkCentral Test Manager(TM), for overall management of the pre-deployment testing effort; SilkCentral Issue Manager(TM), for the tracking and reporting of defects; and SilkCentral Performance Manager(TM), for the on-going monitoring of applications, post deployment. Segue's complete Silk product line is fully integrated into the various components of SilkCentral, each product serving as an engine to drive a specific quality function within the platform. Functional testing and load testing is provided by Segue's flagship products, SilkTest(R) and SilkPerformer(R), respectively. Modules can be installed individually or combined to realize the full efficiencies of software quality resources and processes. Additionally, the open interfaces provided by the SilkCentral platform also allow third party applications to be driven by SilkCentral and to supply quality-related data to the SilkCentral repository and reporting engines. "For years, the groups within an organization responsible for software development and quality assurance and the IT Systems people that deploy and manage the applications have worked as though they were completely separate entities," said Larry Fortune, performance manager, ACS State Healthcare, in Atlanta, Georgia. "With Segue's new SilkCentral Quality Optimization Platform, organizations have complete visibility into quality issues throughout the software quality process. Quality becomes an iterative process of collaboration and resource leverage across the entire enterprise and throughout the software application lifecycle." About SilkCentral SilkCentral represents a product strategy that will provide unprecedented visibility into the overall software quality effort and allow customers to realize process efficiencies through the leverage of quality assets. On the visibility side, SilkCentral allows the scheduling and running of tests on machines located anywhere on the network through a single point of control, 24x7. SilkCentral collects metrics from Segue and non-Segue test and measurement engines in both pre- and post-deployment and normalizes the data into a common set of quality reports. Process efficiencies are realized via SilkCentral's collaborative framework that enables communication of information between all of the various groups within an organization responsible for software quality, whether they are across the hall from each other or across the globe. Test assets can be reused from stage to stage in the quality process, thus leveraging a single asset numerous times. This asset reuse allows organizations to deepen and broaden the software quality effort with each quality iteration. For example, SilkCentral provides post-deployment monitoring capabilities to capture transactions and automatically create real world test scripts and defect diagnostics for reuse within development and testing cycles. "SilkCentral represents a significant departure from traditional approaches to software quality. SilkCentral for the first time enables quality optimization across the entire software application lifecycle. SilkCentral takes our already well-respected Silk family of testing products and integrates them into a cohesive platform that covers quality definition, measurement, management and monitoring," said Andre Pino, chief marketing officer, Segue Software. "The SilkCentral platform leverages prior QA investments and provides a level of visibility into the software application lifecycle that is unprecedented. With SilkCentral, our customers will optimize their software application quality and also realize a rapid return on investment." The Silk Common Architecture As the underlying foundation of SilkCentral, the Silk Common Architecture (SCA) provides a set of common services, classes and interfaces. The SCA functions enable the various SilkCentral modules to define and manage quality assets and link to other Silk products and/or third party tools to collect quality measurements throughout the software application lifecycle. The SCA's core services include Web-based GUI services, centralized repositories, Web- based reporting engine, user administration, enterprise licensing services and a set of open APIs. The open APIs are provided to enable Segue, its partners and its customers to integrate various test tools into the SilkCentral Quality Optimization Platform. SilkCentral Core Modules The first releases of the SilkCentral Quality Optimization Platform will occur in May with the availability of SilkCentral Test Manager, SilkCentral Performance Manager and SilkCentral Issue Manager.
