Schmitt Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq:SMIT), a world leader in precise test and measurement systems, announced that it has added a new advanced grinding machine balancer control platform and acoustic emission (AE) monitoring system to its line of products for the grinding industry. The two new products provide customers increased precision in grinding wheel balancing and strengthen Schmitt's reputation as the world leader in automatic dynamic balancing and process monitoring for the grinding industry. Both products will be showcased at the IMTS 2010 show, September 13th-18th in Chicago (Booth N-7533).

The revolutionary new SB-5500 control unit features a high resolution display and user interface that includes international adaptability and display of information in multiple languages, including Chinese. The unit provides unsurpassed accuracy, balancing to a tolerance of 0.02 micron (0.7 millionths of an inch) at a speed of 30-30,000 RPM and offers four-channel capability permitting balancing of multiple grinding machines at once. The SB-5500 also accepts control cards for mechanical balancers with cable or non-contact connection, hydro balancers, manual balancer control and the Acoustic Emissions Monitoring System (AEMS). With an all-digital design and electronic display, the SB-5500 is easy to install on existing equipment and can easily be integrated with Profibus, CNC/PLC hardwire interface, Ethernet and USB 2.0 communication capability.

Schmitt will also be showcasing the AE-1000, a compact, economical and easy to use acoustic emission detection device for monitoring the very high frequency signals generated on the grinding machine structure during key events in the grinding process. The acoustic emission sensors allow the machine tool to automatically respond to those events to facilitate gap control, diamond dresser control and crash detection.

"We are very pleased to feature both the SB-5500 and the AE-1000 at the IMTS 2010 show. Our entire SBS line of balancing and grinding control products allow manufacturers to effectively and efficiently monitor the grinding process to achieve increased precision, thereby improving efficiency and reducing costs," remarked David Case, Schmitt Vice President of Operations. "SBS products take the challenge out of grinding wheel balancing and acoustic emission analysis and provide manufacturers with unsurpassed accuracy that can't be realized with any other competitive systems."
