Redback Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:RBAK), a leading provider of
next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced that
Henan Communication Corporation, one of the largest service
providers in China and a subsidiary of China Netcom, has deployed
Redback's SmartEdge(R) family of routers for a major network
build-out that supports broadband services for business and
residential customers throughout China's Henan province. Henan
Communication provides advanced IP-based services to the Henan
Province, which is home to more than 100 million residents and the
largest population of China's provinces. Redback's SmartEdge
routers were selected because of their proven flexible and reliable
subscriber management and edge routing capabilities. The scalable
SmartEdge solution also met vigorous network design requirement as
Henan Communication plans to expand their subscriber base by nearly
50% in the near future. "Redback's technology is designed to
provide an all-in-one IP-based broadband solution for service
providers like Henan Communication, who are planning to grow their
subscriber base aggressively by offering value added services in
addition to high bandwidth access services," said Simon Williams,
vice president of sales and operations for the Asia Pacific region
at Redback. "Utilizing Redback's technology, Henan Communication
has the capability to offer their business and residential
customers advanced broadband services on a single, converged
network, optimizing operational expenses." The implementation of
Redback's SmartEdge service capabilities provides Henan
Communication the infrastructure to offer value-added consumer and
business broadband services to their rapidly growing subscriber
base. New services to be enabled for Henan Communication's
customers include high-speed internet, Video on Demand (VoD),
online gaming and MPLS VPN connectivity. "The SmartEdge platform
stands apart from other solutions because of its highly scalable
and reliable architecture that offers differentiated quality of
service for personalized high-bandwidth service offerings such as
IP video," said Marco Wanders, chief marketing officer at Redback
Networks. "With the SmartEdge enabled architecture, Henan is in the
position to optimize their network operations and reduce the time
to market for new IP based services." About Redback Networks
