Rogue Wave Software, a division of Quovadx, Inc. (Nasdaq: QVDX) providing reusable software components and services that facilitate enterprise-class application development, today announced the general availability of HydraSDO for XML 1.1, an update to HydraSDO for XML, and an early access version of HydraSDO for Databases. These new components will allow developers to increase the efficiency of data access in Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) environments by significantly reducing memory requirements and increasing performance. The new version of HydraSDO for XML 1.1 offers Distributed SDO, which provides an extremely efficient, standards-based architecture for sharing XML documents between applications on different computers without reparsing. HydraSDO for XML 1.1 allows for parsing speeds of up to ten times faster and a memory footprint one-third that of other popular parsers according to Rogue Wave Software research and testing. The Distributed SDO feature is the first SDO implementation that supports streaming data objects between machines, thereby retaining all of the benefits of using XML as a messaging format while eliminating redundant, repetitive and costly reparsing of the same data as it travels throughout a SOA environment. We are excited to expand our HydraSDO component offerings to continue to allow professional developers to reap the benefits of SOA while also achieving high performance scalability, said Patrick Leonard, vice president, product development, Rogue Wave Software. These new offerings will help developers be able to more easily create flexible applications with improved scalability and lower memory usage in a standards-based environment. HydraSDO for Databases enables relational data to be accessed in both traditional application architectures and SOA by allowing relational data to be accessed and modified using the SDO Application Programming Interface (API). This eliminates the need to write Structured Query Language (SQL) code, a time consuming step in the development process. HydraSDO for Databases provides support for leading databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, and DB2. HydraSDO for Databases also includes tools to reverse engineer existing databases from an SQL script or a live database connection, such as Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), and generate the data access code. HydraSDO components provide consistent and easy-to-use access to enterprise data sources, making them available through the standardized Service Data Object (SDO) API. After data has been exposed by the simple XML-style SDO interface, it can be used by any application as a real-time data service. HydraSDO data components consist of HydraSDO for XML and HydraSDO for Databases, which automate the creation of high performance, service-oriented data services in Java and or C++, each optimized for the data source that it supports. HydraSDO for XML version 1.1 also offers the following enhancements: Better interoperability between Java and C++, allowing developers to share data objects in memory between Java and C++ applications Improved performance and new configuration options, including XPath expression caching and DataObject value caching Rogue Wave HydraSDO is an implementation of the SDO specification, created by the Open SOA collaboration, of which Rogue Wave Software is a member. HydraSDO components can work either independently or as an integrated component of the Rogue Wave HydraAgent Runtime, which empowers IT architects and professional developers to achieve order-of-magnitude performance and throughput improvements through concurrent processing. In combination, Rogue Wave HydraAgent Runtime and HydraSDO components allow for increased flexibility and productivity for developers. They are part of Rogue Wave Hydra Suite, the first generally available high-performance SOA development environment that supports and complements key concepts of the Service Component Architecture or SCA specification, which incorporates service data objects as a key foundational technology. HydraSDO XML 1.1 and the Early Access version of HydraSDO for Databases Java Edition are now available directly from Rogue Wave Software for download at http://www.roguewave.com/sdo-download.cfm.
