Northwest Airlines Announces Nonstop Service Between Detroit And Charlottesville, Va. Two Daily Flights Begin April 4 DETROIT, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest Airlines (NASDAQ:NWAC) today announced it will resume nonstop service between its hub at Detroit and Charlottesville, Va. Two daily flights will be offered beginning April 4, increasing to three on Aug. 23. "Northwest Airlines is pleased to welcome Charlottesville back into our growing global network," said Tom Bach, vice president of market planning and Airlink. "This service will offer local travelers and visitors to the region a convenient link to the world. Passengers traveling through our renowned WorldGateway hub at Detroit will find hassle-free connections to cities throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia." Northwest briefly served Charlottesville from August through October 2001. "The Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority is extremely pleased to welcome Northwest Airlines back to our region," said Kurt Goodwin, chairman of the board of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority. "This service will provide business and leisure travelers with vast connections to and from Detroit, making connections possible for our valued customers worldwide. In addition, Northwest's nonstop flights to Detroit will open an additional gateway to international travel from Charlottesville, especially to the Asia- Pacific rim." The service will be operated with Northwest Airlink partner Mesaba Airlines' Saab 340 turboprop seating up to 34 passengers. Charlottesville will be the sixth destination in the Commonwealth of Virginia served by Northwest and its Airlink partners, joining Richmond, Norfolk, Roanoke and Washington's Dulles and Reagan National airports.
