NetScreen IDP Solution NSS-Approved SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScreen Technologies, Inc. today announced that the NetScreen IDP-500 intrusion prevention and detection (IDP) system has achieved the recognized "NSS Approved" certification. The NetScreen IDP-500 product, with the recently announced version 3.0 of the IDP operating software, (see related release issued today: NetScreen Delivers First IDP Solution to Integrate Application and Network Profiling and Attack Investigation Capabilities) received the NSS certification after a rigorous and comprehensive testing evaluation of performance, reliability, security effectiveness and usability. "Our tests verified that the NetScreen IDP-500 demonstrates high levels of intrusion detection and prevention capabilities," said Bob Walder, director of the NSS Group. "NetScreen's powerful reporting and forensic analysis can reduce time spent examining attacks." Details of the NSS report issued today and detailing NetScreen's results reveal: -- The NetScreen IDP-500 system successfully detected and blocked 100 percent of all the test's exploits. -- The management system is well designed to handle management and configuration of large numbers of sensorsacross the enterprise. The network administrators are provided with a high degree of flexibility and control in how policies are defined, stored and deployed. -- Features such as Enterprise Security Profiler (ESP) and custom reports make NetScreen IDP one of the strongest products in terms of reporting and forensic analysis. -- NetScreen has the ability to define compound signatures that allow multiple individual signatures (both stateful and protocol anomaly) to be combined into a single signature to enable detection of complex exploits. This is identified as an extremely powerful and flexible capability, providing for the creation of some very complex and accurate custom signatures. The NSS Group, with a global reputation for the quality and accuracy of its security assessment and benchmarking tests, conducts fully independent testing of networking, communications and security hardware and software products. The NSS Group established this intrusion prevention system (IPS) test to help customers evaluate IPS products in a standardized format. To be certified, the IPS products are tested against seven requirements with a suite of more than 750 individual tests, which are considered to be some of the most comprehensive in the industry. A system must complete the following seven requirements with an approved rating in order to achieve this certification in the areas of: in-line operation, reliability and availability, resilience, low latency, high performance, unquestionable detection accuracy, fine-grained granularity and control, and advanced alert handling and forensic analysis capabilities. NetScreen IDP Products NetScreen's IDP appliances, running the new version 3.0 of its operating software, can help security administrators identify normal and anomalous traffic flows on the network, define security policies based on these flows and quickly investigate and respond to network- and application-level attacks. The NetScreen IDP-10, -100, -500 and -1000 with the new IDP operating software version 3.0, are expected to be available in late March 2004.
