Medical Nutrition USA Introduces New Pro-Stat(R) AWC With Citrulline for Increased Effectiveness in Wound Care

Medical Nutrition USA, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDNU), a developer and
distributor of proprietary, nutrition medicine products, announced
the introduction of Pro-Stat AWC with Citrulline. The product,
which is an enhanced formulation of Pro-Stat AWC, is designed for
patients in long-term care facilities with advanced wounds,
primarily pressure ulcers.
Pressure ulcers, also know as bedsores, can significantly
diminish quality of life and require substantial cost to remedy.
Also, statistics show the incidence of bedsores to be as high as
one-in-four among long-term care residents, with a price tag for
treatment of $1.3 billion nationally.
Pro-Stat AWC with Citrulline is the only wound care supplement
with Citrulline, an amino acid that safely and effectively
increases Arginine levels to produce nitric oxide needed for wound
healing. Nitric oxide is used by the inner lining of blood vessels
to relax the surrounding smooth muscle, resulting in a widening of
blood vessels and increased blood flow to the wound.
A clinical study, conducted by S. Kwon Lee MD, FACS, and
published in the journal Advances in Skin & Wound Care in 2006,
of long-term care residents with pressure ulcers showed a 96%
improvement in healing rates among those residents that received
standard care plus Pro-Stat compared to a control group that
received standard care plus a placebo.
"Pro-Stat AWC with Citrulline is an even more effective
treatment option for patients with pressure ulcers," said Frank A.
Newman, Medical Nutrition USA's Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer. "This important addition to the Pro-Stat product line
demonstrates Medical Nutrition USA's continuing dedication to
developing significant and highly-effective new products on a
timely basis."
