Long-time IDX(R) Flowcast(R) Customer Targets Improved Service,
Expanded Revenue with Portal for Referring Physicians BURLINGTON,
Vt., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IDX Systems Corporation
(NASDAQ:IDXC) today announced that University of Colorado Hospital
is deploying IDX(R) Referring Practice Online(TM) as the core of a
new central referral center. Referring Practice Online is a secure,
interactive web portal that extends IDX core administrative and
clinical systems beyond the care delivery organization to community
and referring physicians. University of Colorado Hospital has been
using IDX(R) Flowcast(R) revenue cycle management solutions since
2001. By adding this new IDX eHealth solution across all of its 40
outpatient clinics, University of Colorado Hospital plans to expand
revenue by increasing external referrals, reduce costs by
streamlining internal referral processes, and enhance the
experience of both referring physicians and their patients. Ranked
among the top hospitals in the country by U.S.News & World
Report's annual survey of "America's Best Hospitals," University of
Colorado Hospital is nationally and internationally respected for
its exceptional teams of medical specialists. In a three-month
pilot program during 2005 involving four internal specialty
practices, one internal primary care clinic, and two external
primary care clinics at University of Colorado Hospital, the new
Referring Practice Online demonstrated potential for revenue
enhancement by increasing referral volume by ten percent. The move
from a paper-intensive manual process to a rapid web-based
portal-combined with centralization of the referral process-is
expected to significantly reduce costs for the hospital while
facilitating scheduling and status feedback for referring providers
and patients. IDX(R) Patient Online(R), a companion product to
Referring Practice Online, is also live at the University of
Colorado Hospital. This secure, self-service portal enables
patients to manage the clinical and administrative aspects of their
care; communicate with healthcare providers; gain access to their
health history, results and reports, and clinical notes; and
schedule appointments. University of Colorado Hospital is currently
using Patient Online in nine of its clinics, and plans to
eventually offer Patient Online and Referring Practice Online
together in all of its outpatient clinics. "We see strong potential
for both revenue and service enhancement as we extend our IDX
solutions deeper into our own organization and out into the
community to help referring providers and the patients they serve.
With Referring Practice Online at the core of a central referral
center for our organization, we expect to reduce internal phone
call volume by as much as 25 percent," said Robert Harris, Vice
President of Ambulatory Services, University of Colorado Hospital.
"The pilot program demonstrated the minimal training required --
and the very enthusiastic acceptance of the solution -- on both the
primary care and the specialty sides. We look forward to providing
Referring Practice Online and Patient Online as a complete Internet
package to everyone we serve and partner with in the community,"
said Melissa Greer, Senior Director, Revenue Cycle Operations,
University of Colorado Hospital. "University of Colorado Hospital
has been a valuable partner in influencing the evolution of
Referring Practice Online. We're pleased to provide them with an
easy-to-use, self-service tool that will help maximize the value
they receive from their investments in IDX solutions and enable
them to compete more favorably for referrals to their key
services," said Jeff Kao, Senior Vice President and General
Manager, IDX Flowcast Operating Unit. "As regional health
information organizations become a reality, the notion of extending
the healthcare enterprise beyond the four walls of the hospital is
taking hold. Web-based solutions that foster doctor-to-patient- and
doctor- to-doctor-communication will be a cornerstone in the
evolution of care delivery." Referring Practice Online has been
developed to allow specialists to coordinate more effectively and
efficiently with practitioners and patients in the community.
Referring Practice Online provides online tools for identifying
specialists and services, requesting and confirming patient
appointments, forwarding pre-visit documentation, sending and
receiving secure messages, and viewing clinical documentation in
real time for timely and comprehensive follow-up care. About
