Entropic, Prime Electronics & Satellitics Inc. Introduce World's First Single-Chip Channel Stacking Switch Low Noise Block So...
January 07 2014 - 8:00AM
(International Consumer Electronics Show) –
Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions
for the connected home, and Prime Electronics & Satellitics
Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced digital satellite
communication and wireless consumer electronic products, today
announced the industry's first single-chip, three-tuner Channel
Stacking Switch (CSS) Low Noise Block (LNB) converter for the
global Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) Outdoor Unit (ODU) market.
This single-chip LNB is powered by Entropic's highly-integrated
RF5218 CSS integrated circuit (IC), and offers a flexible input
configuration and three-tuner support in a cost-optimized package
with minimal power consumption. The new single-chip LNB,
manufactured by Prime, allows DBS operators the opportunity to
support three-tuners off a single cable run, such as a High
Definition (HD) personal/digital video recorder (PVR/DVR) and a HD
Zapper/Client in a second room, in the most cost-optimized manner.
CSS technology provides the lowest installation cost for deploying
HD and multi-room services in the home via PVR/DVR products, allows
for easy plug-and-play STB installations, and simplifies upgrades
and new installations with a lower total system cost.
"In working with Entropic, we are able to deliver a
first-to-market single-chip LNB device that we believe is a strong
complement to our current portfolio of Entropic-powered
single-cable outdoor unit products," said Vincent Hung, vice
president, Sales and Marketing, Prime Electronics &
Satellitics. "Our new LNB gives emerging market Pay-TV operators an
affordable solution that will increase their average revenue per
user by advancing subscribers' TV and entertainment experiences
with new HD and multi-room services – all on a single-cable
feed."
"As the global market leader in single-wire cabling
infrastructure for satellite service delivery, we continue to work
with world-class partners like Prime to deliver revolutionary
products to the global DBS operator market," said Al Servati, vice
president, Marketing, Entropic. "We believe Prime's first
single-chip, three-tuner LNB, powered by Entropic's RF5218, will
have wide-scale appeal with DBS operators throughout developing
countries in Latin America, Southeast Asia Pacific, and Eastern
Europe. This is because in these markets traditional homes have two
TV viewing locations and can now get HD service, multi-room
entertainment and home networking over our cost-optimized CSS
single-wire architecture."
CSS and Home Networking Co-Existence
By networking PVRs via a single-cable infrastructure, DBS
operators can deploy whole-home PVR applications using MoCA®
(Multimedia over Coax Alliance). Operators can offer more
entertainment services on the single-wire network, by combining
Entropic's CSS technology with its MoCA-based home networking
silicon, which enables the most reliable streaming of multiple HD
video, audio and data traffic throughout the home. By combining CSS
with MoCA, DBS operators gain a significant competitive customer
service advantage in their ability to offer new services while
reducing the capital costs associated with new subscriber
installations and existing customer upgrades. Further, combining
CSS and MoCA technologies provides a flexible way to allocate
traffic on the subscriber's coax wiring; future-proofing potential
bandwidth expansion needs required for capacity-heavy home
networks.
Product Information
Prime's new single-chip, three-tuner LNB is available for DBS
operators now. The new product will be on display at the
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Entropic's Meeting
Suite at the Wynn Las Vegas, Alsace Ballroom, from January 7 - 10,
2014.
