Endwave Amplifiers Power Video Down-Link System From AAI
Corporation SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Endwave Defense Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Endwave
Corporation (NASDAQ:ENWV) and leading provider of innovative
high-frequency subsystem solutions for defense electronics,
homeland security and other government end-use applications, today
announced the receipt of follow-on orders from AAI Corporation for
126 JCA Amplifiers(TM) to be used on the Shadow(R) TUAV (Tactical
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) program. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are
pilot-less drones that operate remotely or autonomously, providing
battlefield intelligence to armed forces on the ground in support
of conventional combat raids, counter mortar operations, and
search-and-rescue operations. "Tactical" UAVs, like the Shadow, are
generally categorized as those having a range from the UAV's ground
control station of up to 200 kilometers, while "Endurance" UAVs
include those with a range beyond 200 kilometers. Each Shadow TUAV
system consists of four air vehicles and two ground control
stations, providing U.S. Army brigade commanders with crucial
real-time reconnaissance. A Shadow TUAV is launched from a
hydraulic catapult, after which an operator then controls the drone
to the proper aerial location from a ground control station. It is
virtually undetectable while flying at extremely high altitudes,
and uses advanced imaging systems that are capable of observing
operations from great distances. Once over the target, control is
then passed from the ground control station on the runway to an
operator in a tactical operations center. The camera mounted on the
Shadow produces color video during the day and black-and-white
thermal images at night. The Endwave Defense Systems low-noise
amplifiers are a critical part of the video down-link system
provided by AAI Corporation. "We are excited about these follow-on
orders from AAI Corporation for the critical Shadow UAV program --
a high profile 'intelligent battlefield' program that has used our
JCA Amplifiers(TM) for over four years," said Ed Keible, President
and Chief Executive Officer of Endwave Corporation. "At Endwave
Defense Systems, our expertise in high-frequency technology
solutions makes us an ideal partner for UAV applications where
maximum performance is achieved with minimal cost, weight, and
size," added Keible. About Endwave Endwave Corporation designs,
