relatively optimistic, either in response to Intel's upbeat
mid-quarter update or in anticipation of a strong employment report
out of the U.S., as all 15 of the markets that we track are
currently trading positive. The cumulative average return on the
group stands at a plus 0.543 percent. Despite a 100 point gain
overnight, the Nikkei closed out this week lower by 1.6 percent.
Since first closing beneath its 20-week moving average (currently
around 11,300) four weeks ago, the index has had quite a difficult
time with the trendline. The index remains 4.3 percent positive in
2004. Focusing toward our friends to the north, Canada added an
additional 56,100 jobs in May over April. Full-time employment rose
by 37,200, while part-time employment added 19,000. May's jobless
rate fell to 7.2 percent from the 7.3 percent logged in the prior
month. Before the market open today, the May Unemployment Rate is
seen holding steady at 5.6 percent, matching April's rate. Analysts
expect that May Non-farm Payrolls will rise by 215,000, adding to
the prior month's 288,000 increase. If my tallies are correct, the
U.S. economy has generated some 870,000 new non-farm jobs in the
first four months of the year. If May hits the consensus number, we
will have broken one million. Be prepared for the investing week

OPPORTUNITIES A hectic day within America's national security
branches yesterday. The main jolt came when CIA Director George
Tenet announced his resignation. This wasn't totally shocking,
since he was due to leave after November's presidential election
anyway. But given the intense criticism recently over allegations
that better CIA intelligence could have prevented the September 11
attacks, and again over the false intelligence that led the CIA to
overstate the case for war in Iraq, Tenet will now leave in
mid-July. Meanwhile, Ian Cooper and his investors at the Taipan
Group's Extreme Volatility Speculator (EVS) investment service are
thanking Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge for his comments
yesterday. Specifically, Ridge turned his attention to -- and
admiration for -- the security companies making America safer from
terrorism. One of the companies he mentioned was longtime EVS
favorite IPIX. Cooper had previously taken profits of 107%, 246%
and 144% on IPIX for his investors. And on May 26, just as
pre-Memorial Day and summer terrorism fears were making headlines,
Cooper issued another buy at $8.66. Yesterday, purely on Ridge's
commendation, IPIX shares soared 51% to close at $12.49 Cooper sold
half the position for a 50% gain and is up 50% on the second half.
He also sold off positions in Magal Security Systems, Mace Security
International, and Digital Recorders Inc. for 21%, 18% and 17%
profits respectively. The EVS team is up an average of 14% per
recommendation in 2004 -- simply by trading on company/industry
speculation and "selling the news" when it hits the mainstream
media. To find out more about the EVS group simply follow this
