Charter Communications Inc. said about 140,000 residential
customers asked for protection from disconnection, in accordance
with the company's participation in the Federal Communications
Commission's Keep Americans Connected Pledge amid the Covid-19
pandemic.
The internet, cable and phone provider on Friday said 1,000 of
those customers would have been disconnected for non-payment under
its regular policies. As of the end of April, the company said
about 50% of those customers have made partial or full payments
since entering the disconnection protection.
However, 67,000 of the 140,000 customers had past due balances
beyond the point of normal disconnection at the end of April,
Charter said.
The company said it has offered small-and-medium business
customers a seasonal plan with reduced rates for those who have
temporarily closed or reduced offerings.
