Agere Systems Announces USB 2.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter and ExpressCard(TM), and Gigabit Ethernet Adapter TAIPEI, Taiwan, May 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Agere Systems (NYSE:AGR.ANYSE:AGR.B), continuing to broaden its business in the Gigabit Ethernet chip solution market, today announced two turnkey design solutions targeted at emerging markets. The design solutions are GigEasy(TM), a Universal Serial Bus 2.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter; and GigX(TM), an ExpressCard(TM) form-factor Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. Agere plans to show these products at the Computex Taipei 2005 trade show (Booth #T104). (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040618/AGERELOGO ) As a part of Agere Systems' strategy to enable solutions for emerging markets, the design kits are available as a fully packaged consumer quality product. The products were designed for rapid technology transfer to Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) worldwide. This targeted approach will provide for reduced engineering costs and faster time-to-market for products based upon Agere's TruePHY(TM) Ethernet devices. The Agere GigEasy turns a USB 2.0 port into a Gigabit Ethernet local area network connection. Simple to use, the product converts a USB port into a 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet port and works on any Windows(R) 2000/XP PC equipped with a USB port. Link and Activity light-emitting diodes give a clear indication of an active link and network activity. GigEasy is housed in a small plastic housing, slightly larger than a USB memory stick and sold in a consumer clamshell package with a quick start guide and documentation compact disk. The Agere GigX enables the PC to support 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet in a compact mini-size ExpressCard compatible with the latest generation of notebook PCs featuring an ExpressCard slot. The GigX is housed in a standard ExpressCard form factor and can easily be inserted into the ExpressCard slot of any PC. Both GigEasy and GigX are available now.
