Boeing Wins 777 Orders; Avoids More 787 Losses
March 05 2009 - 11:43AM
Dow Jones News
Boeing Co. (BA) said Thursday that it had secured orders for
three 777 aircraft over the past week and avoided any more
cancellations for its 787 and other models.
The new deals leave the company with a net loss of 10 orders
year-to-date, compared with 13 when it last updated investors on
Feb. 24.
With airlines suffering falling passenger numbers and reduced
access to finance, there is concern that Boeing and Airbus may
suffer a raft of cancellations.
Boeing has lost 32 orders for its 787 plane as it works to
produce an aircraft that is more than two years behind
schedule.
A Russian airline and a Middle East leasing company accounted
for the bulk of the 787 cancellations.
Boeing said in its weekly update for the period to March 3 that
it has secured orders for one 777 from Air New Zealand (AIR.NZ),
and two from unidentified customers.
It has already booked orders for 19 737 aircraft this year, most
of them from Ryanair Holdings PLC (RYAAY).
