John Gildersleeve to succeed Sir Dominic Cadbury as deputy chairman of EMI Group plc

London, 19 November 2003 - - EMI Group plc today announces that Mr John
Gildersleeve will join the Board as Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent
Non-Executive Director on 28 February 2004 when he retires as an Executive
Director of Tesco plc. He will succeed Sir Dominic Cadbury who will retire from
the EMI Board at that time, having served as a Director for two three year
terms.

Mr Gildersleeve, 59, who has been a member of the Tesco plc Board since 1984,
is currently Director - Commercial and Trading and he is recognised as a major
contributor to Tesco's widely acclaimed success.

Sir Dominic Cadbury, 63, joined the EMI Group Board on 20th February 1998 as a
Non-Executive Director and was appointed Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent
Non-Executive Director a year later.

Biography: John Gildersleeve

John Gildersleeve, 59, began his career at Tesco in 1965.

In his 38 year career with the company, he performed a wide range of
functional, regional and general management roles. He assumed his current role
as Director - Commercial and Trading in 1992 and, in recent years, has played a
part in the company's expansion into Ireland, Eastern Europe, Asia including
Japan. He was appointed to the Board of Tesco plc in 1984.

He has been a Non-Executive Director of Lloyds TSB plc and Vodafone Group plc.
He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Carphone Warehouse Group plc and of
Gallagher Group plc, where he will become Non-Executive Chairman in March 2004.
