American Defense Systems, Inc. (ADSI) (NYSE
Amex: EAG), a leading provider of advanced transparent and opaque
armor, architectural hardening and security products for Defense
and Homeland Security, has received a follow-on order for Crew
Protection Kits (CPKs) from Caterpillar Inc., the world's leading
manufacturer of construction and mining equipment.
The CPK's unique flexibility allows a unit commander to decide
the level of protection needed during mission operations. It can be
also easily pre-positioned and stored in its own container, with no
fluids to drain or seals to dry out while in storage.
The CPK is designed as a cost effective and relatively
lightweight steel and Kevlar solution for small arms and explosive
protection in the context of a smaller and lighter construction
vehicle. While effectively protecting the operator, it duplicates
the controls and operation of the standard commercial cab.
"This follow-on order from Caterpillar marks another milestone
for ADSI," said the company's chief executive officer, Anthony J.
Piscitelli, "as it reflects our successful initiation as a supplier
to this global leader in construction equipment. The introduction
of a CPK product with 'plug and play' capabilities was also the
first of its kind. We designed this new CPK to protect our brave
service men and women from serious injury, but also with
flexibility and operational efficiency in mind. We are continuing
to evaluate applications of this type of CPK for similar
lightweight construction equipment."
About ADSI Crew Protection Kits ADSI CPKs
are custom designed and fitted to offer a maximum amount of
security for the operator. They feature windows of fully
transparent armor, opaque armor siding (ATC Aberdeen-tested and
approved to meet all Operation Iraqi Freedom requirements), a
patent-pending combat lock, tool-less emergency egress windows,
fortified door hinges and an integrated crew comfort system. The
CPKs are modular and can be applied to the vehicle either during
its assembly stateside or as a retrofit in theater. ADSI employs
field service representatives (FSRs) that are on the ground in
Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait to train soldiers on the proper
installation techniques and offer on-going expertise and
assistance. In January 2008, ADSI was awarded the "Best Development
in the Field of Armored Vehicle Survivability" prize by Defense IQ,
a division of IQPC (http://defenseiq.com/Defence.aspx), an
organization comprised of senior decision makers from the defense,
aerospace and technology sectors, and partnered with the Institute
for Defense and Government Advancement.
