                               Board Appointment


Woolworths Group plc today announces the appointment of Tony Page to the Board
as Managing Director - Commercial and Marketing. He will join at a mutually
agreed time and will assume responsibility for the Commercial and Marketing
functions of the Woolworths Retail business.

Tony, 39, is currently Non-Food Trading Director of Asda - Wal-Mart, having held
a number of senior positions in that business since joining in 1994. Prior to
joining Asda, Tony had been a senior buyer with J.Sainsbury plc.

Trevor Bish-Jones, Group Chief Executive of Woolworths, said:

"Tony has a strong track record of driving growth and innovation across a broad
range of general merchandise categories. He will bring invaluable experience to
Woolworths to help us continue the development of our product offer and supply
chain capability."
