                     Appointment of new Investment Manager
                                       
                Directors to seek authority for share buy-backs
                                       
The Directors of Martin Currie Moorgate Investment Trust plc announce the
appointment of  Henderson Investors as the Company's investment manager with
effect from 1 July, 1999.  Henderson Investors has an excellent reputation and
strong record in the management of UK smaller companies investments and John
Alexander will be the individual fund manager responsible for the Company.
Further information relating to the change of manager will be included in the
Chairman's Statement in the Company's report and accounts expected to be
despatched to shareholders in August, 1999.

The Board believes that it would be in the best interests of the Company's
shareholders to have the power to effect the buy back of shares and,
accordingly, announces that appropriate resolutions will be proposed at the
Company's annual general meeting to be held in September 1999 ("AGM").

A proposal to change the Company's name to reflect the new management
arrangements will also be submitted to the Company's shareholders at the AGM.

Richard Westmacott, the Chairman, commented:

"The Board has been concerned for some time about the level of discount to net
asset value at which the Company's shares have traded and the Company's
investment performance compared to its peer group in the UK smaller companies
sector.

"After a careful review and presentations from a short-list of leading UK
smaller companies fund managers, the Board has concluded that the interests of
shareholders would be best served by the appointment as manager of Henderson
Investors given their extensive resources and track record in the sector."
