Wellstar International, Inc. (OTCBB: WLSI), a provider of
specialized diagnostic software and equipment, announced today that
its wholly owned subsidiary, Trillenium Medical Imaging (TMI), will
utilize Wellstar Medical Advisory Board Members Dr. Courtney Lyder
and Edna Atwater to assist with the roll-out of its thermal imaging
systems to long-term care (LTC) facilities nationwide.
Dr. Courtney Lyder's background in wound care, hospital
operations and nurse care management will play a major role in
expanding the Company's client base among the LTC facilities.
Lyder's key interest involves identifying early indicators of
tissue damage that could help identify pressure ulcers, more
commonly known as bedsores, before they become a serious problem.
As a result of Lyder's expertise, he was elected to chair a federal
advisory panel that revised the nursing home industry's standards
of care and strengthened penalties for violating them. He is in
great demand as a consultant, both within the nursing home industry
and in training state regulators charged with enforcing the
regulations.
As an international expert on wound care, Dr. Lyder has
delivered more than 500 lectures on this discipline in the United
States and internationally. He serves on seven journal editorial
boards and reviews manuscripts for 15 medical and nursing journals
and has published more than 165 books, book chapters, articles and
abstracts. In the past 17 years, Lyder has received as a principal
investigator or co-investigator nearly $12 million in research and
training grants related to the healthcare needs of older
adults.
Dr. Lyder is a senior consultant to the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services where he has influenced development of
regulations and policies related to care of elders. In 2007, he was
awarded the Thomas Stewart Founder's Award by the National Pressure
Ulcer Advisory Panel. This award was created to honor an individual
who has made significant contributions in the area of pressure
ulcer prevention and treatment, especially in the areas of public
policy. Dr. Lyder is also professor and dean of the UCLA School of
Nursing.
Between 1994 and 2003, Lyder served on the faculty at Yale
University in the School of Nursing, where he directed a number of
programs specializing in adult, family, women's and elder care. In
2003, he joined the University of Virginia as an endowed professor
of nursing and a professor of internal medicine and geriatrics. He
led the University of Virginia's School of Nursing's acute and
specialty care department, where he oversaw curriculum for 25
full-time and 22 part-time faculty members. He also designed and
directed the school's geriatric nurse practitioner program. In
2006, Lyder was appointed director for diversity initiatives for
University of Virginia's School of Nursing and medical center.
Edna Edwards Atwater has been a registered nurse in the state of
North Carolina since 1975. Since 1998, Atwater has held several key
positions at Duke University Medical Center, including
administrator and Director for the Wound Management Institute. She
has also served as President of the Dermatology Nurses'
Association, Chairperson of the Surgical Core Curriculum,
Dermatology Nurses' Association, on the Health Policy Committee,
National Federation of Specialty Nursing Organization, and
Dermatology Nurses' Association Representative to the National
Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel.
Wellstar's CEO, John Antonio, stated, "I look forward to working
with Courtney and Edna in the coming months. Their leadership and
experience will certainly provide the Company with an advantage as
we start the roll-out of our thermal imaging systems to the LTC
facilities. Our country has over 16,000 LTC facilities that are in
need to prevent liabilities that are due to the staff's inability
to detect pressure ulcers early; our imaging system will play a
critical role in minimizing these liabilities."
