LafargeHolcim Ltd. (LHN.EB) said Wednesday that earnings and sales increased in the first quarter and that it expects the positive momentum to continue through the year.

The Switzerland-listed cement maker said recurring earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose to 920 million Swiss francs ($912.8 million) from CHF700 million a year earlier.

Excluding the effects of the IFRS16 accounting standard, recurring Ebitda was CHF809 million, LafargeHolcim said.

Sales rose to CHF5.96 billion from CHF5.83 billion, the company said.

LafargeHolcim shrugged off concerns about global economic growth, backing its 2019 guidance and striking a bullish tone on its prospects for the rest of the year.

The company said it expects continued market growth in North America and continued demand growth in Asia-Pacific and most countries in Europe.
