HealthMed Services, Ltd. (PINKSHEETS: HEME) President, Dr. Henry J. Smith, today revealed that the Company has further development on an improved Donor Organ Transport System that will maintain and preserve isolated donor organs in good condition for remarkable and prolonged periods of time, allowing timely and better donor and patient matching. Studies show there is a critical shortage of donor organs that can be used for transplantation. Over 50,000 patients are on the waiting list for a transplant, but only 20,000 transplant operations are performed each year. In fact, it is reported that 10 patients die each day while waiting for a donor organ that never arrives.

In order to widen the donor pool, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has implemented regulations for a National Organ Allocation policy based on medical need, instead of the geographical proximity of donor and recipient. Consequently, there is a great demand for a transport system that can maintain the donor organ in optimum condition during the prolonged time it is being transported across country. Dr. Smith stated, "The Company is prepared to meet this need. Our vision is to have soon such an organ transport system available to every donor/recipient on a routine basis."

He went on to state, "As noted in previous press releases, through a merger the Company has acquired proprietary rights from myself to an improved Organ Transport system (patent pending). By reconditioning the donor organ such as the heart, kidney or liver, and extending the period of time for transport, it will be possible to improve the success rate of transplants. Also, it is highly useful in research to have a device that can maintain the organ for extended period in vitro so it makes it possible to test drugs on isolated organs in vitro before starting clinical trials on patients."

He added, "The Company has made significant progress in its research program and has a working model of a portable organ transport device. It has completed the initial research studies showing that isolated donor organs could be kept alive for an extended period of time using the organ transport system and further refinement of the system by the Company is planned."

President Smith emphasized, "One important feature that differentiates HeathMed Services Ltd. Organ Transport System from other companies developing similar devices is that the Company's organ transport system is so inexpensive, and that it is designed to be disposable. This is our mission, to make it extremely practical and convenient for routine use in all transplant operations." He declared, "Our goal is to capture a major portion of the potential market for the Organ Transplant System, that has been estimated at $80 million annually."

About HealthMed Services, Ltd. HealthMed Services, Ltd. has acquired the intellectual property rights to two important medical technologies. In the field of Organ Transplantation the Company is developing a device for keeping isolated donor organs alive for extended periods of time outside the body. This will allow the donor organ to be transported across the country to allow better donor and patient matching. Also the better the donor organ can be preserved the better will be the outcome of the organ transplantation.
