Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) on Monday reported above-normal gas
emissions due to an operational disruption at its refinery in
Corpus Christi, Texas.
In a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality,
the refinery said the operational "upset" was related to an
incinerator in a sulfur recovery unit, and that it resulted in the
release of 3,000 pounds of sulfur dioxide, and 200 pounds of
hydrogen sulfide.
"Routed streams to the authorized control devices to return to
normal operations as quickly as possible," the refinery said,
adding the emissions happened Sunday, lasting about four hours.
Valero's 293,000-barrel-a-day Corpus Christi refinery includes
an East and West plant. This latest incident happened at the East
plant.
