Despite the fact that Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast nearly six years ago, New Orleans is still in the process of rebuilding devastated neighborhoods and providing homes to affected families. PGT Industries, the nation's largest supplier of impact-resistant windows, is doing its part in the continued recovery effort.

In May, a group of PGT employees will go to New Orleans to volunteer for AEC Cares – projectNOLA. The outreach project, organized by New Orleans' Operation Helping Hands, provides residential construction-based services, labor and materials to those who are working to rebuild homes. Participants include volunteer professionals from the architecture, manufacturing and contracting industries.

PGT is also donating $5,000 to the project—the top sponsorship level—which will go toward the expense of rebuilding a home in the New Orleans parish. The home has been in the owner's family for more than 60 years, but has been damaged repeatedly, by Katrina and then Hurricane Gustav.

The renovation and build project took place on May 11. Following the volunteer effort, PGT will participate in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) convention, also in New Orleans.
