IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of information and analysis, is strengthening its commitment to corporate social responsibility by establishing a new Corporate Sustainability goal in 2012. This goal joins the company’s four other long-standing goals upon which it focuses its efforts and measures its success.

“Our emphasis on Corporate Sustainability will help ensure that we are structured for long-term success in a changing business environment,” said IHS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jerre Stead. “We will focus on sustainability to increase our competitiveness as a company, while simultaneously improving both the social and economic conditions of the communities in which we operate.”

The new Corporate Sustainability goal joins the company’s primary objectives, including:

  • Improving Customer Delight;
  • Fostering a culture that enables colleague success;
  • Delivering profitable top- and bottom-line growth; and
  • Providing an opportunity for shareholder success relative to our peer group.

“In 2011 we launched our Corporate Sustainability function and defined our vision of being world-class in Corporate Sustainability by 2015,” said Jane Okun Bomba, IHS chief sustainability, investor relations and communications officer. “Our global network of sustainability champions has been integrating sustainable thinking into everyday decisions in each of our offices around the world, because we know that a strong culture of sustainability is an integral part of our long-term success.”

IHS will measure its progress using the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the first index that tracks social responsibility performance and is one of the most credible worldwide sustainability rating tools. The DJSI family selects sustainability leaders from all industry sectors on the basis of criteria from the Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) corporate sustainability assessment.

To achieve its world-class vision, the company will focus on improving its public reporting and provide greater insight regarding environmental and social dimensions; increase its focus on metrics, tracking and goal setting on operational eco-efficiency; continue its commitment to and support of citizenship and philanthropy, and continue its corporate governance focus.

In addition to focusing internally on corporate sustainability, IHS is also leading the industry in helping clients develop and implement unified strategies to achieve their vision for Enterprise Sustainability Management, including Environment, Health and Safety, Operational Risk, GHG and Energy Management, Product Stewardship, and Corporate Responsibility.

Added Okun Bomba: “In this challenging global business environment, it is imperative that we pay attention to environmental and social impacts, and to view these as opportunities that strengthen our business for the long term. As we continue to help support our clients in achieving their Enterprise Sustainability Management goals, it is even more critical that IHS is a role model in this area.”
