Harris Corporation to Demonstrate Real-Time Decision Support System
for Homeland Security During AFCEA TechNet Int'l 2004 WASHINGTON,
May 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation will
demonstrate its advanced SafeGuard(TM) real-time decision support
and situational awareness system for homeland security operations
during the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association
(AFCEA) TechNet International 2004 conference (Harris Booth #222),
held May 11-13 at the Washington D.C. Convention Center. SafeGuard
is a highly scalable system for horizontal data fusion and
multimedia situational awareness. It provides local, state and
federal agencies with comprehensive tools for timely and accurate
decision-making during security incidents or other crisis
management situations, as well as during daily, non-emergency
operations. "In today's world, constant vigilance is the price we
must pay for our freedom. A key element in the maintenance of our
freedom is situational awareness. It is important to see the next
threat coming, and nowhere is that more important than in the
protection of our nation's metropolitan areas and seaports. The
Harris SafeGuard System can be customized to address situational
awareness in a variety of scenarios," explained Michael P.
Zeitfuss, vice president and general manager, Homeland Security
Programs business unit, Harris Government Communications Systems
Division (GCSD). "The ultimate result is comprehensive information
sharing and improved, collaborative decision-making, both of which
are crucial to homeland security and other situational awareness
applications." Harris SafeGuard provides a highly flexible
framework that quickly integrates, processes and visualizes
disparate data and multi-media sources such as sensor data, video
feeds from news and security cameras, tracking and location
information, application output, and databases. Selected sensor
inputs may be geo-located for display on highly accurate 3-D models
and 2-D maps. The system easily integrates new sources of
infrastructure data with legacy systems for presentation on display
devices that range from low-end desktop displays/laptops to large
display walls. SafeGuard enables the creation of operations centers
and command-and- control decision systems, and serves as an
effective mission planning and simulation tool for designing
strategies, doctrine and countermeasures. In addition, SafeGuard's
simulation management features allow for training and conducting
exercises to ensure effective preparedness and recovery from
emergencies and crisis situations with reduced risk and damage.
