MELBOURNE, Fla., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has named Andrea R. Bortner, 45, to the newly created position of vice president, talent management. In her new position, she will be responsible for overall talent acquisition, as well as leadership of the Harris Talent Center and Learning and Development programs. Bortner previously was director of talent management for the company. Since joining Harris in 2005, Bortner has led the company's integrated talent management strategy, employee development activities, and other activities to attract, retain and develop Harris talent throughout the organization. "Andrea fills a critical role in helping Harris to develop the leadership talent that will enable our company to excel in a very competitive industry environment. Finding and developing the best talent is critical to achieving our strategic growth aspirations," said Jeffrey Shuman, vice president of human resources and corporate relations. "Andrea will help integrate functional activities such as talent planning, recruiting, performance management, learning and development, total rewards, and succession planning in a manner that continuously enhances the investment we are making in our people." Prior to joining Harris, Bortner served in a broad range of roles including consultant for executive coaching with Insight Into Action, Inc., and human resources positions with Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Georgetown University and Hospital, General Medical, Square D Company, and Pepsico, Inc. She also served as vice president of human resources and vice president of organizational development and training for GAP. Bortner received a bachelor of arts degree from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and a master of business administration degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She is a board member of the Brevard Division of the Children's Home Society.
